Although it can be irksome at times (I have been shovelling for three days now), I love it when it snows in the Okanagan. Snow was one of the items that Nancy and I checked off, as a plus, when we moved here. Today I look out across the lake to the mountains covered in white and the lake water looking like gunmetal. Just beautiful. One other feeling I get when it snows is the desire to hunker down in a cozy mountain cabin. When it’s cold outside, there is nothing better than being next to a roaring fire, looking out the windows as the snow falls.
Today’s post is a reaction to that feeling and this home is a great example of a place where one can relax, recharge and rejuvenate. This stylish hilltop getaway is perched on the side of a Montana mountain and is designed to take advantage of the spectacular views while bathing the interior of the home with natural light. The wood-clad interiors compress the space, ramping up the comfort level while the expanse of glazing pulls the view into the home, making the occupants part of it. This is a very well planned home.

Elevation showing home set into the sidehill, single story at the entry and 2 story at the rear.
Front entry of the home, with double glazed entry doors and full height side lites. This feature shows a detail I have used many times, with the entry open right to the rear of the home. This pulls the visitor right through the space and into the home.
Lots of space for hanging out and visiting. Generous windows capture the view. Wood clad walls and vaulted ceilings.
Steel suspended stairs and handrail look out the fully glazed wall to the view outside. This design element is a great feature.
Generous kitchen area with commercial size range /w pot filler over. The sink is located on the island with seating opposite for four. Interesting beam ceiling. Great detail. Note cabinets match the wood siding.
This dining area has a larger size table /w chairs and an oversized couch/banquette. This space also enjoys great views through the generous glazing. More wood walls and beamed ceilings.
More comfortable space with lots of glazing.
